Schwartzel wins the green jacket
AUGUSTA, GA (TheSpread) – In one of the wildest Masters finishes in history, South African Charl Schwartzel closed the day with four birdies to win his first major by two shots.
Rory McIlroy opened the day with a four-shot lead, but McIlroy shot an 8-over 80, which opened the door for the field. Eight different golfers held the lead throughout the day, including Tiger Woods, but Schwarzl ultimately took control, knocking in birdies on 15-18 to finish at 14-under for the tournament and win by two over Adam Scott and Jason Day.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Schwartzel had 100/1 odds to win the Masters, meaning a $100 wager on him will pay out an additional $10,000.
Schwartzel opened his round with a chip in for birdie on No. 1 and an eagle on No. 3 after hitting in a shot from over 100 yards out. Schwartzel shot a 66 for his final round.
Woods was in the lead at one point but a missed 5-foot eagle putt on hole No. 15 ultimately kept him from really contending down the stretch. Woods finished tied for fourth at 10-under par.
