Dubai Desert Classic Picks
DUBAI, UAE (TheSpread) – The most competitive field in golf this week is in Dubai for the 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Here are some plays to consider for this weekend’s tournament.
Despite Tiger Woods being involved in this weekend’s event, my pick to win the tournament is Martin Kaymer. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com, Kaymer has 3/1 odds to win. There hasn’t been a hotter golfer in the world than Kaymer. He has one win this year and was fourth in this event a year ago. Kaymer is quickly working toward the No. 1 spot in the world rankings and I expect him to continue that run this weekend.
In terms of matchups, I like Kaymer at -115 over Woods at -135. Woods still has not put his game together and it is hard to think he will magically do that this weekend when facing two guys that have passed him on the world rankings. Woods will need to play flawlessly to get past Kaymer this weekend.
Another matchup I like is Rory McIlroy at -140 vs. Lee Westwood at -110. Despite earning the top ranking in the world, Westwood hasn’t been at his best to start 2011 and McIlroy has a run of five-straight top-6 finishes going right now. I expect McIlroy to contend for the title while Westwood will be more in the middle of the field.
Play for this tournament begins Wednesday night into early Thursday morning and will run until early Sunday.
