Quiros Turns Up Aces
DUBAI, UAE (TheSpread) – The big names fell behind while Alvaro Quiros made the biggest shots of his career, as he won the 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic by one shot.
While names like Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, and Rory McIlroy each shot even par or worse in Sunday’s final round, Quiros shot a 4-under 68 thanks to a hole-in-one and an eagle in his round. Quiros finished the tournament at -11, one shot ahead of James Kingston and Anders Hansen.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Quiros had 8/1 odds to win so a $100 wager on Quiros will pay out an additional $800.
Kingston and Hansen each finished -10 for the tournament. Kingston shot a 67 on Sunday while Hansen shot a 70.
McIlroy led after the first two rounds, but shot a 2-over 74 on Sunday and finished tied for 10th with Westwood, who shot an even-par 72 for his final round. Woods struggled all day Sunday, shooting a 3-over 75 to finish the tournament at -4, which put him in 20th place.
