Arnold Palmer Invite Picks
ORLANDO, FL (TheSpread) – The 2011 PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational tees off on Thursday and here are a couple of suggest plays for this week’s star-studded tournament.
In terms of individuals to look out for, I like Dustin Johnson to come out on top. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com, Johnson has 15/2 odds to win and he has been steadily a contender all year, finishing in the top 10 in 3 of 7 tournament he has played in. His ability to hit the long ball opens the door for him to have short approach shots and post a lot of birdies. I like Johnson to emerge in this field.
In terms of matchups, I like Phil Mickelson (+120) over Tiger Woods (-170). I think the odds are too high for Woods as betters are still wagering on him like it is the Tiger Woods from 2008 and not the golfer that has been winless for over a year. While I expect Woods to break out some day, I don’t see it being this week and Mickelson is a former winner of this event and capable of posting low rounds.
Another matchup I like is Justin Rose (-145) over Rickie Fowler (-105). Rose is slightly ahead of Fowler in the world rankings and he has put together a solid 2011 thus far, finishing in the top 20 in 5 of seven events, including two top 10’s. Fowler has been alright as well, but not as overall strong, finishing in the top 20 in 4 of 6 events, which includes one missed cut.
