PGA Championship Picks
ATLANTA, GA (TheSpread) – The 2011 PGA Championship takes place this week starting on Thursday. We have a few picks to consider for this event.
My pick to win the event this weekend is once again Jason Day. According to oddsmakers Day has 25/1 odds to win this week’s tournament. Day has been solid all year, including in the majors. He finished second in the first two of the year and was 30th at the British Open. He placed 10th at last year’s PGA Championship. Day has finished in the top 10 in six of his last nine tournaments and I like him to break through and win his first major this week.
In terms of matchups, I like Dustin Johnson (-110) vs. Adam Scott (-120). Scott is coming off a win and that doesn’t seem to lead to much for most golfers these days. Johnson finished fifth in this tournament last year and was 10th in 2008. He has placed in the top 10 in three of his last six majors. Scott has not been strong in majors for the most part. He finished second in this year’s Masters but has missed the cut in two of his last three PGA Championships.
Another matchup I like is Nick Watney (-105) vs. Matt Kuchar (-125). Kuchar has been struggling as of late, missing two of his last three cuts. He hasn’t finished better than 10th in his last five tournaments and he has just two top 10’s in his major career. Watney has eight top 10’s and two wins on the year. He has missed the cut in the last two majors, but finished 18th in this event a year ago.
