Farmers Insurance Open Picks
LA JOLLA, CA (TheSpread) – The 2011 Farmers Insurance Open tees off on Thursday and here are some plays to consider this weekend.
In terms of individuals, it is hard to stay away from Tiger Woods. Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have given Woods 3/2 odds to win this years event and being a former five-time winner, it is hard to find a better play. Woods is looking to start 2011 off strong after a winless 2010 and with all his off-the-course issues taken care of, he can start to focus on getting back to the top of the sport.
In terms of matchup odds, I like Woods over anyone obviously but a few others to consider are Dustin Johnson -125 vs. Nick Watney and Gary Woodland +110 vs. Jhonattan Vegas.
Johnson is poised for a big 2011 as well as he finished in the top 10 in four of his last eight events and he is among the favorites to win this tournament with 8/1 odds. Watney has been playing well as of late too, but this is his first showing in 2011 and you can expect a little bit of rust from someone that isn’t quite as established.
For Vegas, he is coming off his first win and is still a rookie, so I expect him to take a step back this week and struggle after riding the high of his first tour win. Woodland finished second and is also a rookie, so his motivation will be higher to perform well and especially beat the man who edged him last week.
