Watson edges Lefty
LA JOLLA, CA (TheSpread) – Bubba Watson put forth his Sunday best to win the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open by one shot over Phil Mickelson.
Watson shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday to finish at -16 for the tournament. A birdie on the 18th hole helped get the win as Mickelson needed an eagle on the final hole to force a playoff, but could only muster a birdie.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Watson had 20/1 odds to win the event, meaning a $100 bet on Watson will pay out an additional $2,000.
Watson finished three shots ahead of Dustin Johnson and last week’s winner Jhonattan Vegas, who both finished at 13-under par.
Bill Haas entered the day tied for the lead with Mickelson, but shot a 3-over 75 on Sunday to finish at 9-under and tied for ninth place.
