Byrd wins in a playoff
KAPALUA, HI (TheSpread) – Jonathan Byrd won the first PGA event of 2011 as he won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on the second hole of a playoff with Robert Garrigus.
Byrd and Garrigus each shot a 6-under 67 on Sunday to finish at 24-under for the tournament. The two played two holes in the playoff before Garrigus missed a short putt that gave Byrd the victory.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Byrd had 40/1 odds to win the event, meaning a $100 bet on Byrd will pay out an additional, $4,000.
Graeme McDowell shot an 11-under 62 on Sunday to finish a shot out of the lead while Carl Pettersson and Steve Stricker each finished tied for fourth place at 20-under for the tournament.
