Northern Trust Open Predictions
PACIFIC PALISADES, CA (TheSpread) – The 2011 Northern Trust Open begins play on Thursday and here are some suggested plays for this golf tournament.
In terms of individuals, my pick for this tournament is Matt Kuchar. Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have given Kucahr 20/1 odds to win this event. Kuchar has played seventh or better in all three events he has played in in 2011. He finished 20th in this tournament last year and has just been consistent as anyone for a number of months. His worst outing in his last 16 tournaments was 27th.
When looking at matchup odds, I like Luke Donald (-140) over Paul Casey (-110) and Rickie Fowler (-110) over Anthony Kim (-140). Donald has a string of five-straight top-10 finishes going right now as he makes his 2011 debut and he placed second in this tournament last year. Casey is coming off a missed cut in his last tournament and is playing in his first PGA event of the year.
Fowler has finished in the top 25 in his last seven tournaments and seems to be really hitting his prime right now. Kim was playing well for a little bit but missed the cut in his last tournament. He finished 52nd in this tournament a year ago and hasn’t been as consistent as Fowler. Take Fowler, especially with the longer odds.
