HUMBLE, TX (TheSpread) – The final tune-up for the 2011 Masters takes place this week as some of the top golfers in the world will compete in the Shell Houston Open.

This four-day tournament starts on Thursday from Redstone Golf Course and gives golfers a chance to sharpen their skills before the first major championship of the season.

The world’s second-ranked golfer, Lee Westwood, is the favorite to win this event according to online sportsbook Sportsbook.com as he has 6/1 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Matt Kuchar (7/1), Phil Mickelson (7/1), Hunter Mahan (8/1), and Charl Schwartzel (8/1).

Westwood has not won this event, but he finished eighth last year and 11^th in 2009. Westwood has finished in the top 20 in three of his last four events.

Kuchar ranks ninth in the world and he finished in the top 10 in five of his last seven tournaments. He also tied for eighth in last year’s Houston Open.

Mickelson ranks sixth in the world rankings right now. He has not won this event and missed the cut in 2009 and placed 35^th in 2010. Mickelson has only placed in the top 10 in two of his last 11 events.

Mahan is 18^th in the world rankings and he has five top 10’s in his last nine tournaments. Mahan missed the cut in this event last year but was tied for sixth in 2009.

Schwartzel ranks 29^th in the world. He has finished in the top 25 in 9 of his last 10 events. He took third in last year’s event.
