Shell Houston Open Picks
HUMBLE, TX (TheSpread) – The 2011 PGA Shell Houston Open tees off on Thursday and here are a couple of suggested play to consider for the weekend.
In terms of individuals to look out for, I like Matt Kuchar to come out victorious this weekend. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com, Kuchar has 7/1 odds to win the tournament. Kuchar has been consistently placing in the top 10 and I expect him to be there again this week. Kuchar has a good track record at Redstone Golf Course, as he finished eighth in last year’s tournament.
In terms of matchups, I like Hunter Mahan (-125) over Steve Stricker (-125). Stricker has failed to crack the top 15 in his last four tournaments and seems to be in a bit of a funk while Mahan has placed in the top 10 in three of his last five events. Stricker also missed the cut in last year’s Houston Open while Mahan had a top-10 finish at this event in 2009.
Another matchup I like is Phil Mickelson (+125) over Lee Westwood (-175). This is a bit of a stretch, but has a nice payout. Mickleson has not been at his best recently and Westwood has been improving, but Mickelson showed some signs of life last weekend, cracking the top 25. I wouldn’t expect either golfer to contend in the top 10, but I like Mickelson to graze past Westwood.
