Transitions Championship Picks
PALM HARBOR, FL (TheSpread) – The 2011 PGA Transitions Championship tees off Thursday morning and features a very competitive field. Here is a look at some plays for this weekend’s tournament.
In terms of individuals to look out for, I like Paul Casey again this week. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com, Casey has 10/1 odds to win the tournament. Casey has placed in the top 20 of his last three events and been competitive in some very top-heavy fields as of late. His steady play gives him a chance to contend if he can have one big round, and I suspect he will this week.
In terms of matchups, I like Martin Kaymer (-110) over Nick Watney (-140). Watney has been the hot name as of late as he won last week’s event and Kaymer has been in a slight funk by his standards, but I see the balance of power coming back this week and you can take advantage of that. Look for Kaymer to have an improved showing where he will contend to win, while Watney will step back a bit after getting his win. Watney’s odds are based on his recent string, but Kaymer is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world for a reason.
Another matchup I like is Jim Furyk (-125) over Bubba Watson (-125). Furyk is the defending champion of this event as he shot the lowest total score since 2006 last year. Furyk is familiar with the course and comfortable with his ability to attack pins there. Watson did place third last year, but missed the cut the year before and has been streaky this year and coming off a fourth-place finish last week, so I expect him to take a step back this week.
