The 2011 Presidents Cup is played at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia and will start on Thursday, Nov. 17 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 20. With the event taking place in Australia, most of the event will take place late at night in the U.S.
Oddsmakers have made the International Team, which is captained by Greg Norman, the favorite in this event, giving them odds of -120 to win while the U.S. Team, captained by Fred Couples, has been given a money line of +100.
The International team has won this event just one time in its existence, which came back in 1998 at this very same golf club. The International team won 20.5-11.5 that year. Part of the reason the International team is favored is due to their large Australian contingent. Including Norman, the team has six Aussies on the squad, led by the likes of Jason Day and Adam Scott, both of which are ranked in the top 10 of the world.
The United States team has an interesting mix of older vets and first-time players. The team is headed up by the likes of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, who have been constants on the team, but also includes the likes of rookies Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.
In regards to a pick for the event, I like the International Team. The United States hasn’t been able to compete on a world level with the likes of Europe and other countries. When it comes to the International team, it consists of many of the top young stars in the game and the Australian fan base will be loud and vocal for their guys. The U.S. is still relying on the likes of Woods and Mickelson, who are very inconsistent right now.
2011 PRESIDENTS CUP FREE PICK: International Team -120
