Shriners Hospitals Open Picks
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – The 2011 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open gets started on Thursday and we have a few suggested plays for this tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Martin Laird. According to oddsmakers, Laird has 16/1 odds to win the tournament. Laird won this tournament back in 2009 and finished second a year ago. This course has suited him very well and is perfect for him to get back on track after struggling as of late. With the field being rather weak, I see Laird contending for another win.
In terms of matchups, I like Jhonattan Vegas (-110) vs. Kevin Stadler (-120). Vegas has struggled as of late, failing to crack the top 40 in the last seven tournaments. However, Vegas has been a rising star on the tour and in this lackluster event, I expect him to finish near the top 20. Stadler hasn’t found success in quite sometime, as he has just one top 10 this year. He did compete in this tournament as year ago, but finished 37th, which is an above-average finish for him.
Another matchup I like is Trevor Immelman (-130) vs. Stephen Ames (+100). Immelman has finished in the top 20 in two of his last five tournaments and he has familiarity with the course. Ames has been on real shaky ground, missing the cut in six of his last 10 events. He hasn’t played a full four rounds in this tournament the last two years and I don’t see him making the cut this year either.
