St. Jude Classic Picks
MEMPHIS, TN (TheSpread) – The 2011 St. Jude Classic tees off on Thursday and we have a few selected plays for the golf tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Sergio Garcia. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog, Garcia is the favorite to win this week with 25/1 odds. Despite a long winless streak, Garcia has been very solid this year and on the verge of breaking through. He has placed in the top 20 of his last three events and also has seven top 20’s on the year.
In terms of matchups, I like David Toms (-160) over Zach Johnson (+130). Toms has been on a tear lately, finishing in the top two of his last two tournaments. He also has placed in the top 25 of his last six tournaments. Johnson has just two top 10’s on the year and hasn’t really threatened to win much this year.
Another matchup I like is Camilo Villegas (-145) over Anthony Kim (+115). Kim is a shell of his former self as he has not finished better than 50th in his last six golf tournaments and is without a top 10 in his last 12 tournaments. Villegas hasn’t been outstanding, but he has competed in the middle of the pack in most tournaments. 2011 hasn’t been his year, but I see him more near the top 30 while I expect Kim to not even make the cut.
