The Barclays Predictions
EDISON, NJ (TheSpread) – The 2011 The Barclays takes place this week starting on Thursday. We have a few picks to consider for this event.
My pick to win the event this weekend is once again Steve Stricker. According to oddsmakers, Stricker has 16/1 odds to win the tournament. Stricker has been very steady as of late, placing in the top 20 of his last 11 tournaments. He also has success at this course, winning the tournament in 2007 and placing third last year. Stricker would really like to add the FedEx Cup to his collection and a win at the Barclays would go a long way in doing just that.
In terms of matchups, I like Jason Day (-105) over Matt Kuchar (-145). Day has been very solid on tour this year, scoring eight top 10’s and missing just three cuts. Day has emerged as a top-10 golfer in the world and plays well in big tournaments. Kuchar has taken a step back this year, especially as of late, where he has just one top 10 in his last six tournaments. I think Kuchar’s odds are too high against someone the caliber of Day and am making a pick of the young Australian.
Another matchup I like is Hunter Mahan (-130) over Bubba Watson (-120). Mahan is still looking for that first win this year, but he does have seven top 10’s on the year and he has had some solid finishes in events like the PGA Championship and WGC events. Watson has four top 10’s this year and been a little sporadic. He didn’t have a top 25 finish in any of the major championships this year and just one top 10 in the WGC events, which was the match play tournament. My pick is with Mahan, who is steadier in events that feature many of the top golfers in the world.
