The Heritage Picks & Predictions
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (TheSpread) – The 2011 The Heritage tees off on Thursday with a competitive field. Here are some plays to consider for this weekend’s golf tournament.
In terms of individuals to look out for, my pick is with Matt Kuchar. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com, Kuchar has 16/1 odds to win the tournament. I have been big on Kuchar’s bandwagon this year as he has been very consistent. He has yet to miss a cut and he has finished in the top 10 in six of nine tournaments. He has played well on this course before and I give him a great chance to be putting for the win on Sunday.
In terms of matchups, I like Jason Day (-115) over Rickie Fowler (-135). Day is coming off his second-place finish in the Masters and is playing at a course that he is familiar with. Day has three top 10’s this year and is poised to emerge as one of the top young golfers in the world. Fowler finished eighth in this tournament a year ago, but he has been struggling as of late in terms of having one bad hole ruin his whole tournament. Fowler still takes a lot of chances and I expect him to come out on the wrong end of that again this weekend.
Another matchup I like is Ian Poulter (-135) vs. Stewart Cink (-115). Poulter hasn’t been great, but he has been somewhat steady. He has missed just one cut this year and has a pair of top 15’s. Cink has been somewhat hit or miss this year and he hasn’t shown enough talent to really compete for titles. Poulter is clearly the better talent, he just needs to put it together, which I think he will do this weekend.
