Snedeker stuns Donald
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (TheSpread) – In a miraculous effort, Brandt Snedeker overcame a six-shot deficit entering the final round of The Heritage, to win the tournament on the third playoff hole.
Snedeker posted an impressive 7-under 64 on Sunday to force a playoff with Luke Donald, who shot a 1-under 70 on Sunday. Both golfer finished at 12-under after 72 holes.
On the opening playoff hole, both golfers scored a birdie on No. 18, each hitting lengthy birdie putts to force the action to continue. Following a pars on hole No. 17, both returned to 18 and Snedeker posted a par while Donald shot a bogie.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Snedeker had 35/1 odds to win the tournament meaning a $100 wager on Snedeker will pay out an additional $3,500.
The win for Snedeker was extra painful for Donald, who would have locked up the top spot in the world rankings with a victory.
Tommy Gainey shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at -11 for the tournament, which put him in third place by himself. Tim Herron and Ricky Barnes rounded out the top five by both finishing at -10.
