The Memorial Picks & Predictions
DUBLIN, OH (TheSpread) – The 2011 The Memorial Tournament tees off on Thursday and we have a few selected plays for the golf tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Luke Donald. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog, Donald is the favorite to win this week with 9/1 odds. Despite being the favorite, it is just too hard to pass him up this week. Donald just earned the top spot in the world rankings and his numbers speak for themselves. Donald has finished in the top 10 in the last nine tournaments he has competed in. He also has two wins on the season.
In terms of matchups, I like Rory McIlroy (+110) over Steve Stricker (-160). McIlroy has bounced back from his Masters collapse with a pair of top 10’s in his last four tournaments. McIlroy also placed 10th in this tournament last year. Stricker has been solid as of late as well, placing in the top 15 in his last four tournaments, but he finished outside the top 15 in the Memorial over the last two years.
Another matchup I like is Bubba Watson (-125) over J.B. Holmes (-125). Watson hasn’t missed a cut in his last 10 tournaments and he has made the cut the last two years in this event as well. Watson has two victories already this year as well. Holmes is on a nice run, which is why his odds are event with Watson, but he still lacks any victories. Holmes has back-to-back top 10’s, but he finished behind Watson in this tournament the last two years and is facing a very competitive field this week.
