Woodland gets first PGA win
PALM HARBOR, FL (TheSpread) – A picture of consistency all week, Gary Wooland got his first tour victory on Sunday as he won the 2011 Transitions Championship.
Woodland shot four 67’s and 1 68 throughout the four-day tournament to finish at -15 overall, one shot ahead of Webb Simpson. Despite his consistent scores, Woodland had a crazy final nine holes, posting five birdies and three bogies before scoring par on the 72nd hole to get the 1-shot victory.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com, Woodland had 30/1 odds to win the tournament, meaning a $100 wager on Woodland will pay out an additional $3,000.
The field was filled with some of the top players in the world, but many didn’t contend into the weekend as pre-event favorite and No. 1 ranked golfer Martin Kaymer finished tied for 20th at -6 and last week’s winner, Nick Watney placed 13th at -8.
