Travelers Championship Picks
CROMWALL, CT (TheSpread) – The 2011 Travelers Championship tees off on Thursday and we have a few selected plays for the golf tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Bubba Watson. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog, Watson has 20/1 odds to win the tournament. He is the defending champion and he finished 14th in the tournament in 2009. Watson has already won twice this year and he is quickly emerging into one of the top American golfers. If Watson can get off to a fast start, he has a good chance to win this tournament.
In terms of matchups, I like Ian Poulter (-135) over Lucas Glover (-115). Despite missing the cut at the U.S. Open, Poulter has steadily made cuts this year and also has a win to his credit. Glover has struggled this year, missing four cuts in his last eight tournaments. While Glover did place 11th in this tournament two years ago, I still feel Poulter is the stronger play.
Another matchup I like is Padraig Harrington (-115) vs. Vijay Singh (-135). Harrington hasn’t been solid as of late, but he still shows flashes of strong play. He has three top 10’s this year and he has made his last two cuts, which were both real competitive tournaments. Singh didn’t play in the U.S. Open and he has three top 10’s on the year as well. I like Harrington to finish better this week in a battle of two aging golfers.
