U.S. Open Final Round Odds
BETHESDA (The Spread) – After setting the 54-hole scoring record on Saturday, Rory McIlroy remains the favorite to win the 2011 U.S. Open.
After a marvelous third round, McIlroy expanded his lead to eight strokes heading into the fourth and final round on Sunday. He shot 3-under 68 to finish 14-under 199 on the day, which broke Jim Furyk’s 2003 record for the best score by one stroke after 54 holes.
Heading into the final round, McIlroy leads Y.E. Yang (70) by eight strokes and according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, he remains the favorite at 1/33 on the money line. McIlroy also leads Lee Westwood, Jason Day and Robert Garrigus by nine strokes.
Although he has been the favorite after every round this weekend, McIlroy wasn’t favored at the start of the tournament. That honor belonged to Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, who each had 10/1 odds to win, respectively.
That said, oddsmakers weren’t too far off with McIlroy’s opening odds, as he was 12/1 to win the U.S. Open. After he emerged with a sizable lead following the first round, McIlroy’s odds improved to 2/1 and he was listed as the favorite. Then after the third round, he was listed as 1/4 and was the clear-cut favorite to take home this year’s U.S. Open.
McIlroy’s lead is double the size of the one he had at the Masters two months ago when he stumbled on the back nine to finish 15th. The highest the 22-year-old from Northern Ireland has finished at the U.S. Open is 10th, which came in 2009. He’ll be seeking his first Major victory when he hits the links on Sunday.
Looking at other contenders’ odds, Westwood is 12/1 to win, while Yang is 33/1. Day is 40/1, Matt Kuchar is 50/1 and Robert Garrigus is 66/1. Davis Love III, Fredrik Jacobson and Sergio Garcia are all 100/1, respectively.
The fourth and final round of the 2011 U.S. Open will conclude at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland on Sunday, June 19. For a complete list of updated odds for the final round, see below.
