According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald are the favorites to win this event with 10/1 odds while Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson each have 12/1 odds to win.
Westwood is second in the world rankings currently. He is still seeking his first major championship in his career. At the U.S. Open, Westwood has placed in the top 10 in three of his 11 appearances.
Luke Donald holds the No. 1 spot in the world ranking and he has finished in the top 10 of his last 10 golf tournaments. Donald has yet to win a major and at the U.S. Open, he has never finished in the top 10. His best finish was 12th back in 2006.
McIlroy is eighth in the world rankings. He has yet to win a major in his career, but he has finished 15th or better in his last three major tournaments. McIlroy was cut in last year’s U.S. Open, but he finished 10th in his debut in 2009. McIlroy led heading into the final round of the Masters this year, but fell apart in the last 18 to not finish in the top 10.
Mickelson is fifth in the world rankings. He has four major championships to his credit, but he has never won the U.S. Open. It is a tournament he has done well at, finishing in the top 10 nine different times. He has also finished second in this tournament five different times.
The 2011 U.S. Open will be played at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland and runs from Thursday, June 16 to Sunday, June 19.
