McIlroy dominates U.S. Open
BETHESDA, MY (TheSpread) – In a historic performance, Rory McIlroy won his first major championship on Sunday, winning the 2011 U.S. Open by eight shots.
McIlroy shot a 2-under 69 in Sunday’s final round to finish at -16 for the tournament, eight shots ahead of Jason Day. The 16-under total was a new U.S. Open record.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, McIlroy had 12/1 odds to win this year’s golf tournament, meaning a $100 wager on him will pay out an additional $1,200.
McIlroy set new records for leads after 36 holes and 54 holes as he shot below 70 in each round, including a 65 in round one and 66 in round two. This is the first major championship for McIlroy, who lost the 2011 Masters after leading by four shots entering the final round.
