Steele gets first PGA win
SAN ANTONIO, TX (TheSpread) – Another PGA Tour rookie got his first win on Sunday as Brendan Steele held of Charley Hoffman and Kevin Chappell to win the Valero Texas Open.
Steele shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday to finish at -8 for the tournament, which was just enough to beat Hoffman and Chappell by one. Hoffman posted a 4-under 68 in the final round, which was his second 68 of the tournament. Chappell came in with a 70. Steele was one of two golfers to have all four of their rounds at even par or better.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Steele had 200/1 odds to win the event, meaning a $100 wager on Steele will pay out an additional $20,000.
The other golfer to meet Steele’s efforts was Brandt Snedeker, who finished at 6-under for the tournament and finished in fourth. Snedeker didn’t have a round over par the entire tournament.
Pre-tournament favorite, Adam Scott finished the tournament at tied for 23rd at even par overall. Scott shot a 4-over 76 on Sunday.
