2011 Wells Fargo Championship To Win – Mickelson Favored By Oddsmakers

CHARLOTTE, NC (TheSpread) – Some of the top golfers in the world will face off with one another this weekend in the 2011 Quail Hollow Championship from Charlotte.

This week’s PGA Tournament features a handful of golfers in the top 10 of the world rankings and American Phil Mickelson is the favorite to win the event.

Mickelson has 12/1 odds to win the tournament according to online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com. Other short odds to win are Rory McIlroy (14/1), Martin Kaymer (16/1), Nick Watney (22/1), and Dustin Johnson (22/1).

Mickelson ranks fourth in the world right now. He has not won this event but he did finish second last year. Mickelson has finished in the top 10 in just one of his last six tournaments, and that was the Shell Houston Open, which he won. On the year, he has three top 10’s.

McIlroy won this event last year and he is now sixth in the world rankings. McIlroy has finished in the top 10 in two of his last three tournaments and he has a total of four top 10’s in seven events this year.

Kaymer recently fell to second in the world rankings after holding the top spot for a number of weeks. Kaymer didn’t play in this event a year ago and he has finished in the top 10 in just one of his last four tournaments. On the year, Kaymer has just one win with three top 10’s in eight events.

Watney ranks 15^th in the world. He placed 22^nd in this tournament a year ago. Watney has five top 10’s on the year, but has failed to get inside that mark in his last three tournaments.

Johnson is 13^th in the world rankings. He placed 29^th in last year’s tournament. This year Johnson has four top 10’s in 10 tournaments.
