Donald wins Match Play Title
PACIFIC PALISADES, CA (TheSpread) – While not being a complete long shot, many didn’t see Luke Donald winning the 2011 Accenture Match Play Championship, but he did just that on Sunday.
Donald had an amazing week and capped it off by beating the new No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, Martin Kaymer. Donald won the match 3&2 and he never reached the 18th hole in any match during the week.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Donald had 28/1 odds to win this tournament, meaning a $100 wager on him will pay out an additional $2,800.
Despite coming up short in the championship, Kaymer’s run to the final match earned him the No. 1 world ranking, as he surpassed Lee Westwood, who lost in the second round of the tournament.
