WGC Bridgestone Invitational Picks
AKRON, OH (TheSpread) – The 2011 WGC Bridgestone Classic takes place this week starting on Thursday. We have a few picks to consider for this event.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Jason Day. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog, Day has 30/1 odds to win this week’s tournament. The young golfer has been very competitive in the big tournaments this year, placing second in the first two major championships and 30th at the British Open. Day has seven top 10’s on the year and would normally have much shorter odds to win. You can take advantage of that this weekend by getting Day at 30/1 in a stacked field.
In terms of matchups, I like K.J. Choi (-130) vs. Bill Haas (-120). Choi has quietly had a very strong year with one win and six top 10’s. Choi has also played well in the stronger fields, finishing in the top 10 of the Masters. Haas is coming off a runner-up finish last week, but it was just his first top 10 in his last five events. Haas does have six top 10’s in total on 2011, but he was playing much better and more consistent in the beginning of the year than he is now.
Another matchup I like is Geoff Ogilvy (-120) vs. Jim Furyk (-130). Neither golfer has been playing well in 2011, but Ogilvy showed signs of life in his last tournament, placing second. He has just three top 10’s this year, but Furyk has been a mess. Furyk hasn’t finished in the top 10 in his last 11 tournaments, and he also has five missed cuts in that span. For the year, he has just two top 10’s.
