Zurich Classic Free Picks
AVONDALE, LA (TheSpread) – The 2011 Zurich Classic tees off on Thursday with Luke Donald looking to get the top spot in the world rankings once again.
Donald is my pick to win this event. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com, Donald has 9/1 odds to win the tournament. He ranks third in the world and has finished in the top 10 in his last five events. He is coming off a second-place finish last week, but let a victory and the top ranking in the world slip through his hands. I look for Donald to make a big charge this week and get a win.
In terms of matchups, I like K.J. Choi (-115) over Graeme McDowell (-115). Choi is having a nice stretch to start 2011. He has placed in the top 10 in his last two events and has three on the year. He has missed just one cut and made the cut in last year’s Zurich Classic. McDowell has been struggling lately, as he has missed two of his last four cuts and finished outside of the top 40 in the other two events.
Another matchup I like is Charles Howell III (-115) over Rory Sabbatini (-115). Sabbatini has been somewhat solid recently, as he has two top 5’s in his last five events, but he is coming off a missed cut at the Masters and he finished 53rd in this tournament a year ago. Howell is also coming off a missed cut, but he has six top 20’s this year and is making his way up the world rankings at a fast pace. Howell bested Sabbatini at this event a year ago and I expect the same thing this year.
