AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Picks
PEBBLE BEACH, CA (TheSpread) – The 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-AM gets started on Thursday morning and we have some suggested plays for this event.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Tiger Woods. According to oddsmakers, Woods has 5/1 odds to win the event. He is the clear favorite to win, but I think due to his recent play, it is with good reason. Woods really only had one bad round over his last two tournaments, and both were in competitive fields. He seems to be working his way back towards being consistently strong. I expect that to continue this week where he will contend to win the title.
In terms of matchups, I like Dustin Johnson (-115) over Phil Mickelson (-115). Johnson has been dominant at this tournament, winning in 2010 and 2009. Despite recent struggles for Johnson, Mickelson has also been in a real dip. Look for Johnson to use his past success at Pebble Beach to best Mickelson on the weekend.
Another matchup I like is Hunter Mahan (-115) over Nick Watney (-115). Mahan has been hit or miss lately, but he was runner-up in this event last year and he is coming off a missed cut. The last time he failed to finish a tournament, he bounced back with back-to-back top 10’s. Watney has been pretty steady as well, but hasn’t been finding the top 10 as often as Mahan. I expect Mahan to contend to win while Watney will be in the top 20 range.
