According to oddsmakers, Tiger Woods is favored to beat Rory McIlroy this week, as Woods has odds of -145 to top McIlroy, while McIlroy has a money line of +115 to best Woods.
In recent play, Woods seems to have the edge. He has won three tournaments this year despite failing to make the cut in his most recent tournament. McIlroy is coming of a top-10 finish in his last event, but has missed the cut in four of his last six events. McIlroy still sits No. 2 in the world rankings, while Woods is back in fourth.
When it comes to major championships, Woods has the clear edge. Tiger has won a total of 14 majors and three British Opens while McIlroy has just one overall major, a U.S. Open. Clearly Woods has had more opportunities to win.
Woods has competed in the British Open 15 times and he has placed in the top 10 seven times. His last top 10 came back in 2006 when he won the tournament. McIlroy has played in four British Opens. He has one top 10, which was a third-place finish in the 2010 tournament. Last year he placed 25th.
The British Open takes place Thursday, July 19 and will run through Sunday, July 22 from Royal Lytham in Lancashire, England. For matchup odds for Tiger Woods vs. Rory McIlroy, see below
