McGladrey Classic Free Picks
SEA ISLAND, GA (ATS Consultants) – The PGA TOUR is back in Georgia for the Seaside Course out in Sea Island for the McGladrey Classic.
This course looks great but it won’t present that much of a challenge to the field. This will be only the third time the McGladrey Classic has been played and the event is another in the Fall series on the PGA Tour.
Some rain is forecast for the opening two rounds, but the weather should be fine for the closing days. Ben Crane comes here as the defending champion following an excellent performance in 2011, seeing off Webb Simpson following a playoff. Crane shot a final round 63, having been eight shots off the leader at one stage.
Day has not lived up to expectations after having a big 2011 season. He was tied for fourth in Las Vegas and is primed to finished the 2012 season strong. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Day is 14-1 to win the 2012 McGladrey Classic.
He finished eighth last week at the Frys.com Open, is on a hot streak of seven consecutive rounds in the 60s and tied for sixth a year ago in Sea Island. He owns top-13 finishes in three of his past four starts and posted a T-6 at the McGladrey Classic last year. He’s 13 on the PGA Tour this year in birdie average, which should come in handy as the first two years of this tournament saw winning scores of 14 and 15 under.
Longshot
The 38-year old who has won four times on the tour is in the last year of a two-year exemption for winning the first McGladrey Classic in 2010. He finished T-15 last year and needs a strong finish to rise from his current spot of 140th on the PGA Tour money list.
