Haas outlasts Mickelson, Bradley
PACIFIC PALISADES, CA (TheSpread) – Phil Mickelson nearly won his second-straight tournament on Sunday, but he couldn’t get past Bill Haas in a playoff, as Haas won the Northern Trust Open.
Haas, Mickelson, and Keegan Bradley each finished the tournament at -7 overall but on the second playoff hole, Haas pulled off a birdie to best the other two and win the tournament.
According to oddsmakers, Haas had 45/1 odds to win this week’s tournament, meaning a $100 wager on Haas will pay out an additional $4,500.
Haas was the lone golfer in the playoff to shoot under par on Sunday, as he carded a 2-under 69 while Bradley and Mickelson both shot an even-par 71 for the round. Those two entered Sunday tied for the lead.
A group of four golfers, led by Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson, each finished tied for fourth place at 5-under for the tournament. Garcia shocked everyone by shooting a 7-under 64 on Sunday.
