Byron Nelson Championship Free Picks
IRVING, TX (ATS Consultants) – The PGA Tour heads to Dallas-Fort Worth for the Byron Nelson Championship at the TPC Four Seasons Los Colinas.
Matt Kuchar is coming off a big win last week at the TPC and he joins a crowded field. There are a couple of top ten players in the world rankings and four guys who has won multiple major championships teeing off on Thursday.
The TPC Four Seasons is a course that puts a premium on accuracy and distance. There are two 500 yard par 4s and most are at or above 430 yards. Driving is the key stat this weekend. Phil Mickelson is here for the first time since 2007 and Ernie Els is here for the first time since 2006. Keegan Bradley was the winner last year.
Day won here two years ago and finished fifth last year. This is a risky pick since his wife is about to give birth to their first child at any moment. He also missed the cut last week with a 73-72 start at the TPC at Sawgrass. The week before he finished T9 at Wells Fargo. He is one of the longest players in the game with a per drive average over 300 yards so far in 2012 so his game suits this course. He currently ranks 16th in the world.
Pettersson got his fourth top-10 last week at The Players with a tie for 10th. He got a second and a win in back-to-back weeks in April and has cooled some since. The former NC State star ranks 36th in the world rankings and has a 5th in FedExCup. He has made 9 of 12 cuts this year and amassed over $2.4 million in earnings in 2012 alone. His best finish was 1st at the RBC Heritage and he ranks 10th in Scoring Average on the PGA TOUR. He’s 25th in total distance with an average of over 295.7.
Longshot
Gay has made the cut three of the last four Byron Nelsons and in all of those, he finished tied for 14th or better. He was tied for second in 2010 after a final-round 63. The Florida graduate has two top 10 finishes this year and three top 25s. He’s made 9 of 12 cuts this year. His scoring average is at 70.98. Loves this course.
