According to oddsmakers, Luke Donald is the favorite among the Europeans, as he has 5/1 odds to best represent his continent this week. Other short odds are Rory McIlroy (11/2) and Lee Westwood (13/2).
Donald the No. 1 ranked player on the current world rankings. He has posted two PGA Tour victories on the year. Donald has never won this event or any major. He placed eighth at the 2011 PGA Championship and is coming off a fifth-place finish at the British Open.
Westwood is fourth in the world rankings. Like Donald, he has two victories on the year. Westwood has never won this event or any major championship, but he has placed in the top 10 of the PGA Championship in his last two appearances. He has placed in the top 10 in two of the first three majors this year.
McIlroy is third in the world rankings. He has one win on the year and is the lone golfer in this threesome to have won a major championship. McIlroy has not placed in the top 20 of a major since winning the 2011 U.S. Open, but he did finish third in this tournament in 2009 and 2010.
