Jason Duffner was the winner last week and has won two of the last three tournament. Colonial Country Club is a par-70 which demands a hot putter, accuracy off the tee and a sharp wedge game. This is a favorite course among many pros because it’s not incredibly difficult and demands some creative shot-making. David Toms won the tournament last year and always plays well here. Zach Johnson won it in 2010 and is the co-favorite along with Matt Kuchar.
Fowler won his first tournament at May and is the hottest player in the game outside of Duffner. He started out with a 63 last year before fading on the weekend. He’s a much better player this year than last year. He ranks 9th in the FedExCup rankings and has an average score of 70.67. He also averages 294.1 off the tee (39th). He’s also 7th on the money leaders board at $2.4 million.
The veteran won here last year and his last two starts have been his best of the 2012 season. He shot a 65 at Sawgrass two weeks ago in his last round. Toms has played in 11 events this year and has made 9 cuts. He has 5 top 25 finishes and 2 in the top 10. He ranks 2nd in driving accuracy percentage at 71.10%.
Longshot
So he plays a little slow. Na has been playing well this year, including a crushing loss at The Players just like Toms last year, who bounced back to win the Crown Plaza Invitational. Na has five top 10s this season and had a T9 in 2009 and T7 in 2007 at Colonial. Na has a scoring average of 70.78 this year. He’s 18th in driving accuracy at 66.8%. He’s won $1.52 M this year and $12.6M for his career.
