FedEx St. Jude Classic Predictions
MEMPHIS, TN (ATS Consultants) – The PGA Tour moves to Memphis, Tenn., for the FedEx St. Jude Classic, a tuneup for the U.S. Open and one of the oldest tournaments on the PGA schedule.
The host course is a par 70 measuring over 7,200 yards and it stands out as one of the most grueling tee-to-green tests on the schedule. Last year, the TPG Southwind surrendered just 2.82 birdies per round, seventh-lowest all season. There are some big names here this week including Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson, who are both 9-1 favorites. Most of the top players have taken off this week to prepare for the U.S. Open next week in San Francisco.
He finished 7th in 2009 in his only prior start at this event. The 2010 US Open Champ has had a 2nd Arnold Palmer Invitational and 2nd Volvo World Match Play this season. He’s currently ranked first in driving accuracy and first in fairways hit, which definitely should help him here.
Palmer finished in the top 10 back in 2006 here but doesn’t really have a strong track record at Southwind. But he is playing well and has finished in the top 10 in three of his last four starts. He ranks 10th on TOUR in strokes gained-putting and 16th in adjusted scoring.
Longshot
Allenby hasn’t finished worst than T-13 since 2007 at Southwind. In his career, he’s had six rounds of 66 or better at TPC Southwind. His best finish on the PGA TOUR in 2012 is 2nd at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. But his great history in Memphis, finishing T-2 and T-4 in 2008 and 2009 respectively makes him every intriguing. He withdrew in 2010 because of an illness and overall he has five Top 20’s in eight starts at the St. Jude.
