2012 John Deere Classic Free Picks
SILVIS, IL (ATS Consultants) – The PGA Tour moves to Silvis, Illinois at the TPC Deere Run near the “Quad Cities” on the Mississippi River, separating Iowa and Illinois for the 2012 John Deere Classic.
This tournament is a week before the British Open. Steve Stricker, the three-time defending champ, is the favorite at 7-1. The course is very playable and will see multiple players more than 20 strokes under par this weekend. The rest of the field includes, Zach Johnson, who is 17th in the world rankings and Nick Watney, who is 30th in the world rankings.
Watney is coming off a top ten finish at the AT&T National in his last Tour start. He’s struggled here, but hasn’t played since 2008. This is a weak field so it gives a chance for a strong player like Watney to dominate this course.
Byrd finished in the top 25 in every tournament he has entered going back to the Masters (other than the U.S. Open). Three of his top tens this year came during that stretch. He is a former winner of the John Deere at this course back in 2007.
Longshot
Senden won the John Deere back in 2006. He posted a top ten at the U.S. Open in his last start. He ranks 5th on the American Tour in GIR percentage hitting almost 70% of greens in regulation.
