2012 PGA St. Jude Classic Results
MEMPHIS, TN (The Spread) – In his second PGA Tour event since a back injury cost him six weeks of rehab, Dustin Johnson won the 2012 St. Jude Classic this weekend.
Johnson suffered a back injury that cost him nearly three months of PGA Tour time but he shot a 4-under 66 and held off John Merrick by one stroke to win in Memphis. Johnson singled for a final-round 4-under par to win his sixth PGA Tour title and his first since The Barclays in 2011. He also circled five birdies to a lone bogey and had zero issues on the 18th tee, which most players struggled with all day.
When the opening odds were released earlier this week, Johnson had 18/1 odds to win the 2012 St. Jude Classic, which put him right behind favorites Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson, who were both 9/1, respectively. David Toms and Graeme McDowell were 25/1, respectively, while Brandt Snedeker and Robert Karlsson were 28/1 to win, respectively.
Merrick finished second while Davis Love III, Ryan Palmer, Chad Campbell and Nick O’Hern all finished tied for third. McIlroy, Robert Allenby, Ken Duke and Seung-yul Noh all finished tied for seventh. Greg Owen and Kevin Stadler finished tied for 11th.
Johnson won $1,008, 000.00 in official money and earned 500.00 FedExCup Points for the week. Merrick took home $604,800.00 and 300.00 points while Cambell, Love, O’Hern and Palmer all won $133.75.
