2012 RBC Canadian Open Picks
ANCASTER, Ontario (ATS Consultants) – The PGA Tour moves from England to Ontario as The RBC Canadian Open begins on Thursday, July 26 and will run through Sunday, July 29 from the Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster, Ontario.
Ernie Els is coming off his British Open win and is a 25-1 to win his second straight. Matt Kuchar is the favorite at 10-1, followed by Hunter Mahan at 12-1. The Canadian Open could have some weather concerns early in the week and definitely doesn’t draw the field of the British, but the competition should be strong. The course itself is a par 70 and was last used six years ago in the Canadian rotation.
Furyk thrives on couses like this and won here six years ago. He has four top 10′s this year. Furyk never put it all together at Royal Lytham last week but played respectably. He ranks 5th in driving accuracy, 29th in strokes gained putting and is a very solid ball striker.
Van Pelt missed the cut last week at the British but had four top 25′s in his five starts before that including a solo second at the AT&T National. He has six top 10′s this year and finished in the top 20 last time the Canadian Open was in Hamilton.
Longshot
Castro went a bogey-free, 7-under 63 at The Greenbrier Classic to post a career-best T7. He followed that with T18 at last week’s True South Classic. He he kept his ball in play, ranking inside the top 25 at Annandale in both fairways and greens hit. He also sat 15th in Strokes Gained-Putting. The rookie just needs experience and a big win.
