Ryder Cup Free Pick
MEDINAH, IL (TheSpread) – The 2012 Ryder Cup begins play early Friday morning. Here is a look at our free pick to win this contest.
The Ryder Cup is a three day team event that begins on Friday. The first two days of the event feature 4 foursomes matches and 4 fourball matches. Sunday features 12 singles matches. Each match is worth one point. If a match is halved, each team gets ½ a point. The U.S. must get 14.5 points to win the Ryder Cup while Europe needs just 14 points to retain the championship. This year’s event is being held from Medinah Country Club in Illinois.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, United States is the slight favorite to win the Ryder Cup, as they have odds of -140 to win. Europe has a money line of +120 to prevail.
The American team is captained by Davis Love III. The team consists of Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Brandt Snedeker, and Dustin Johnson.
The European team is captained by Jose Maria Olazabal. The team consists of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Paul Lawrie, Graeme McDowell, Francesco Molinari, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Peter Hanson, Martin Kaymer, Nicolas Colsaerts, and Ian Poulter.
This year has been a strong one for the Americans, with the rise of players like Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner and Brandt Snedeker. All three are at the top of their games entering this event. Meanwhile, the European team is dealing with players like Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood, who have been struggling in recent competition.
Europe has been strong in the Ryder Cup over the last decade, winning four of the last five events. However, recent Ryder Cup history suggests the home team has the edge. With this being on American soil, and the American team playing very well lately, I see the U.S. taking this one. Expect a slow start in the team play, and for the Americans to be trailing entering Sunday, only to put on a show in the individual match play portion to win the Ryder Cup.
2012 RYDER CUP FREE PICK: UNITED STATES -140
