Ryder Cup Top Scorer Odds
MEDINAH, IL (TheSpread) – The 2012 Ryder Cup is just a few days away. Here is a look at the odds to be the top scorer at this team event.
The Ryder Cup is a three day team event that begins on Friday. The first two days of the event feature 4 foursomes matches and 4 fourball matches. Sunday features 12 singles matches. Each match is worth one point. If a match is halved, each team gets ½ a point. The U.S. must get 14.5 points to win the Ryder Cup while Europe needs just 14 points to retain the championship. Each player can earn up to 1 point per match he competes in. This year’s event is being held from Medinah Country Club in Illinois.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Tiger Woods is the favorite to score the most points in this year’s Ryder Cup, as he has 8/1 odds to be the top point scorer. Rory McIlroy has been given 10/1 odds for this category. Both men are the respective favorites to lead their teams in scoring, as Woods has 5/1 odds to lead the Americans and McIlroy has 5/1 odds to lead the Europeans.
These two are favored, not only for their ability, but they will likely play in all 5 possible matches. The first 4 events do not use all the players available, so it is possible that some golfers won’t have a chance to score a maximum of 5 points. Woods and McIlroy will likely get the chance to score the maximum.
Woods is competing in his seventh Ryder Cup. His all-time record in Ryder Cup matches is 13-14-2, which amounts to 14 total points and a winning percentage of 48%. In 2010, Woods won 3 points, as he was partnered with Steve Stricker in three group matches, winning two. He then won his individual match play event.
This is just the second Ryder Cup for McIlroy. In 2010, McIlroy went 2-1-1, earning a total of 2.5 points for his team. Since that time, McIlroy has emerged as the No. 1 golfer in the world and is expected to have a much bigger impact this time around.
The 2012 Ryder Cup begins on Friday, September 28 and concludes Sunday, September 30 from Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois. For complete odds on who will be the top scorer of the 2012 Ryder Cup, see below.
