Mahan wins Shell Houston Open
HUMBLE, TX (TheSpread) – Hunter Mahan continues his efforts to become America’s top golfer on Sunday as he won the 2012 Shell Houston Open by one shot.
Mahan shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 16-under par overall. Mahan was one shot ahead of Carl Pettersson, who finished the tournament at 15-under par following a 71 of his own on Sunday.
Mahan enter this week’s tournament with 24/1 odds to win, meaning a $100 wager on Mahan will pay out an additional $2,400.
Louis Oosthuizen came into Sunday’s round as the leader, but shot a 3-over 75 on Sunday to finish the tournament in third place at -14 overall.
This was the final PGA Tour event prior to the first major of the season, the 2012 Masters.
