This was the site of the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Opens. Dustin Johnson defends the title he won in a rain-shortened event last year at Plainfield CC. At 7,468 yards, the Black Course will offer one of the sternest tests of the PGA Tour season, thanks to relatively narrow fairways and small greens. Like the PGA Championship, length could play a huge factor this week. The par 71 layout has five par 4s that play over 475 yards, including the 10th and 12th that are 500-plus.
Tends to heat up during playoff time, as evidenced by last year’s BMW victory. Rose has five top tens in eight tournaments including a t3 at the PGA and a t5 at the Bridgestone. He won the WGC Cadillac in March of this year and will look for his second tour win this week in New York.
His play of late suggest he’s ready to get back in the winner’s circle, and he seems like the competent golfer to pull off a win at the always-tough Bethpage Black.
Bradley is heating up at the right time and has the game that matches up nicely with the Black course at Bethpage State Park. He won the Bridgestone Invitational and was third at Kiawah, giving him the best two-week run of anyone going into the Playoffs. Bradley is coming off consecutive top threes at the PGA and is ready to take on the FedEx Cup playoffs coming in with six consecutive made cuts and five top ten finishes on the year.
Longshot
The man fromi Zimbabwe is having his most consistent year on Tour. He hasn’t missed a cut since March, and at 41st on the FedEx Cup points list he’s poised to play his way into his first Tour Championship.
