According to oddsmakers, Rory McIlroy is the favorite to lead the Europeans this week with 3/2 odds. Other short odds to be the top European finisher are Luke Donald (5/1), Lee Westwood (11/2), and Justin Rose (9/1).
McIlroy is second in the world rankings. He has finished in the top 5 in 11 of his last 12 tournaments. McIlroy had a huge lead entering the final round of last year’s Masters, but fell apart on the final day, shooting an 80, and ending up 15th. He has since won the U.S. Open and was the top-ranked golfer in the world for a brief period.
Donald is the top golfer in the world rankings. He is coming off a win in his last outing. Donald has never won The Masters or any major in his career. He has two top-5 finishes at this tournament and he has three top 10’s in seven Masters outings.
Westwood is third in the world rankings. He has three top 5’s in his last five tournaments. Westwood has never won the Masters or any major, but he has finished 11th or better in three of his last four Masters.
Rose is ninth in the world rankings. He has placed in the top 15 in three of his last four tournaments. Rose has also never won a major or The Masters. His best finish in this tournament came in 2007, when he placed fifth. It is his only top 10 at this tournament in six appearances.
