Donald is back on top
PALM HARBOR, FL (TheSpread) – Luke Donald put together a solid Sunday as he won a four-way playoff to claim the Transitions Championship and regain the No. 1 world ranking.
Donald posted a 5-under 66 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 13-under par, putting him in a tie with the likes of Sang-Moon Bae, Jim Furyk, and Robert Garrigus. In the playoff, Donald was the lone golfer to birdie the opening hole, making him the winner and putting him back above Rory McIlroy for the top spot in the world rankings.
According to oddsmakers, Donald had 11/1 odds to win the tournament coming into the week, meaning a $100 wager on him to win will pay out an additional $1,100.
The tournament seemed to be going the way of Ernie Els, who was 7-under for his round at one point, but finished his day with back-to-back bogies to miss the playoff by one stroke at 12-under par.
