SCOTTSDALE, AZ (TheSpread) – Webb Simpson had a big year in 2011 and he looks to get out to a fast start in 2012 when he competes in the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

According to oddsmakers, Simpson is the favorite to win this event with 14/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Martin Laird (16/1), Nick Watney (20/1), Matt Kuchar (20/1), and Brandt Snedeker (20/1).

Simpson is sixth in the world rankings after a stellar 2011 season that saw his rack up two wins and 12 top 10’s. Simpson has played in two events this year, and finished third in one of them. He hasn’t missed a cut in his last 10 events and he placed eighth in this tournament last year.

Laird is 34^th in the world rankings and he has placed 14^th or better in his last three tournaments, including a runner-up finish in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Laird finished third in this event last year.

Watney is 14^th in the world rankings. He had a strong 2011 where he had two wins. He has made the cut in his last 12 events and he placed fifth in this tournament last year.

Kuchar is 12^th in the world rankings. He had a bit of a slow finish by his standards to 2011, placing in the top 10 in just one of his last seven events.

Snedeker is 15^th in the world rankings. He is coming off a win last week in the Farmers Insurance Open. He also had a win last year and has placed 13^th or better in his last four outings. He placed eighth in this tournament last year.

The 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open is played at the TPC of Scottsdale-Stadium Course and will begin on Feb. 2 and finish up on Sunday, Feb. 5. For complete odds for each golfer at the event, see below.
