Fowler gets first PGA victory
CHARLOTTE, NC (TheSpread) – Rickie Fowler finally got his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday, as he won the Wells Fargo Championship in a three-man playoff.
Fowler shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday to get to -14 for the tournament, which put him in a tie with Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points. On the first playoff hole, Fowler hit a beautiful approach shot into No. 18 that left him with a short birdie putt. After seeing his opponents make par, Fowler rammed in the winning put to claim the title.
According to oddsmakers, Fowler had 45/1 odds to win this week, which means a $100 wager on him to prevail will pay out an additional $4,500.
Coming into Sunday’s round, Webb Simpson was the leader, but he finished the day with a 1-over 73 and was one shot outside the playoff at -13 overall.
