Accenture Match Play Picks
MARANA, AZ (TheSpread) – The 2012 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship gets started on Wednesday. Here are some golfers to consider placing your money on to win.
McIlroy is my favorite, and the favorite to win. He has been on a roll as of late, finishing in the top 5 in eight of his last nine events. I think McIlroy should at least find himself in the final eight, and then it is anyone’s guess. With his consistency, it is going to take a real stellar round from someone to eliminate him early on.
Garcia has also been on a tear as of late and his 7-under 64 in the final round of last week’s Northern Trust Open was no fluke. Garcia has placed in the top 12 of seven of his last eight events and is quickly climbing up the world rankings. Aside from McIlroy, he may be the hottest golfer in the world right now.
My long shot this weekend is Ogilvy, who has a great history in this event. Aside from Tiger Woods, he is the only other multiple-time winner of the tournament, and he also finishing second one other time. Ogilvy last won in 2009. While he has not been real strong as of late, match play is different than tournament play, and it takes the right golfer to know how to win. Clearly Ogilvy knows how to win in this format.
