Mahan wins Match Play Championship
MARANA, AZ – (TheSpread) – Hunter Mahan made a big statement to the golf work this week as he won the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship on Sunday.
Mahan wasn’t really considered much a contender coming in, as he was just 22nd in the world rankings, but he survived five days of golf and beat top-seed, Rory McIlroy, in the championship round 2&1.
Mahan came in with odds of 40/1 to win the championship this weekend, meaning a $100 wager on Mahan will pay out an additional $4,000. Mahan also jumped to No. 9 in the world rankings with his victory.
In the consolation match, Mark Wilson, a no. 10 seed entering the tournament, defeated another top seed in Lee Westwood, 1 up.
